OUR MISSION
The Troubled Movement, Inc. is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded by Maranda Evans, dedicated to uplifting teen boys and girls 11-18 through mentoring and education. We also focus on helping victims of abuse turn their pain into purpose.
The Troubled Movement, Inc. is a Houston, Texas born 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We rely on generous contributions and occasional grants in order to fund our programs and events. Any contribution made to The Troubled Movement is greatly appreciated. We accept monetary donations and in-kind gifts (to a certain extent).
"As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10.
*All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.*
OUR UPCOMING PROJECT:
The Troubled Teen Transformation Project (T³) is an expansion of The Troubled Movement. It is a project that our Founder, Maranda Evans, envisioned in 2018. We will use educational, mentoring, and mental health programs and activities to decrease negative teen statistics across the world. This project will be in stages and will go into effect January 2023 and will be included in our 2023 to 2033 plans. Timing may change depending on funds received for this initiative. We would like to have this project completed in full by 2028.
The vision and goals for this project are: (1) To ensure that the youth in the Houston community have positive influences in their lives to keep them from negative behaviors. (2) To provide and foster educational, therapeutic, financial, and lifelong learning opportunities for male and female teens. (3) To lease a space for local teens that sign-up with The Troubled Movement to have a “safe place” they can come to, as well as a space to hold numerous events, workshops, and one-on-one or group therapy sessions. We will also build partnerships with local hotels and/or youth housing facilities. 75% of our current teens are experiencing homelessness or not currently living with their parents.
Program Descriptions:
Movement Mentoring (Click here to view more details on our website) - As an organization that has targeted women and teen girls, we have recently decided to start a mentoring program for young men and women ages 13-25. Our Movement Mentoring Program includes a one-on-one mentoring program to assist parents and schools with guiding young boys and girls in the right direction or helping them continue their path towards greatness. The teenage years are amongst the hardest time we will go through in our lives. It is the age where our body grows, our emotions become stronger, and we gain the ability to think on our own. It is also the time when someone can be easily influenced and succumbs to the actions of those around them.
Project Excellence (Click here to view more details on our website) - Project Excellence is an education program created for students from middle school to college. We host educational workshops, tutoring, and events that raise money for scholarships, school supplies, and prom/graduation sponsorships.
Heroes & Survivors (Click here to view more details on our website) - This program caters towards victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness. We create strong survivors out of past tragedies by allowing them to feel comfortable and safe by sharing our stories, talking with God, and moving forward. In connection with The Butterfly Project (Founder Yoshiko Burney), we also support families in need of rebuilding and financial support.
Giving Funds and Descriptions:
Dennis Stoot Scholarship Fund (Click here to view more details on our website) - Dennis Stoot was born to Mildred & Felix Stoot in Houston, Texas on March 25, 1970. He was not only the Godfather to our organization's Founder, Maranda Evans, but her role model, teacher, and protector. From elementary school to college, Dennis was an academic scholar and football player. He attended Lamar High School and received a full scholarship to University of Houston. Even after an injury that caused Dennis to hang up his football jersey, he continued to excel academically.
Dennis Stoot passed away due to heart failure on September 25, 2007. The Troubled Movement has created a scholarship in his honor to celebrate the wisdom and knowledge he instilled while he was here. May his legacy live on through thousands of students and academic scholars to come.
Bill Roberton Education Fund (Click here to view more details on our website) - William "Bill" Roberton has been a supporter of The Troubled Movement since its origin. Bill is a Certified Public Accountant and Chief Financial Officer of Royal Management Group, Mainstream Establishments, and Air Smoothie, Inc.; the biggest franchisee companies of Smoothie King. Bill is a mentor, devoted father of two beautiful girls, and loving husband. He's also really funny and anyone who talks to him will always have a smile. The Bill Roberton Education Fund will allow TTM to pay for educational activities, trips, and resources needed to further education and its awareness.
Randy Evans Survivor Fund (Click here to view more details on our website) - Randy Alexander Evans, father to Founder Maranda Evans, was born January 1, 1969 in Madisonville, Texas. Randy was best known for his cowboy persona and big smile with the gold tooth “R” in the front. Unfortunately, Randy’s life was short-lived when he was murdered by his girlfriend on March 14, 2004 when Maranda was only 11 years-old. Randy left behind his children, mother, sisters, brother, and a host of nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on with the #PurpleForRandy hashtag started by his daughter, Maranda, where friends and family wear purple on March 14, 2004 every year. Domestic violence is fatal and we are here to make a change. Although Randy Evans didn’t survive, we are dedicated to save millions in his honor. Donate today to save an abuse victim.
Dave McMahon Entrepreneurship Fund (Click here to view more details on our website) - David “Dave” McMahon has been the #1 investor, visionary, and supporter of The Troubled Movement, Inc. since it was only an idea written on a sheet of paper. As Chief Executive Officer of Royal Management Group, Mainstream Establishments, and Air Smoothie, Inc., the biggest Smoothie King Franchisee in the U.S., and mentor to Maranda Evans, McMahon holds an exemplary level of knowledge and wisdom in the entrepreneurial segment. He met Maranda when she was 16-years-old working at one of his many Smoothie King stores. It was then that he recognized her ambition, determination, and heart for service. Besides playing golf and hanging with his Akita & Huskie Mix, Lacey; McMahon loves to support the community and our millennial generation. The Troubled Movement will always show great appreciation to the man who believed in our vision, mission, and purpose. The Dave McMahon Entrepreneurship Fund will be used to assist youth entrepreneurs that are determined to follow their dreams and start their own business, organization, or brand. As an entrepreneur himself and #1 supporter of TTM, we would like to show appreciation to Mr. McMahon by “passing the torch” of giving to our youth as he gave to us.
